Non-Stop Gun-Battle Between AFP and Maute Group Creates Tension Among Local Residents Of Marawi City!
The third round of clashes between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Maute terrorist group has created more tension to the local residents of Marawi City.
According to GMA News correspondents, some of the military force positioned themselves inside the nearby hospital Amai Pakpak Medical Center while doctors, patients, and members of the media were hiding. There were reportedly some injured soldiers who were rushed to the said hospital with an army truck.
Meanwhile, doctors of Amai Pakpak denied the rumors that Maute terrorists besieged the hospital. Instead, an injured terrorist was rushed there but passed away later on. However, a few Maute men were caught on video destroying the NFA rice cellar.
Reports also said that the city hall of Marawi is currently surrounded by the terrorist group. In an episode of 24 Oras, Jessica Soho called Marawi City Mayor Majul Usman. However, Usman couldn’t give too many details as the city hall was still surrounded by the terrorists.
Despite the current danger that the residents are facing in Marawi, some still don’t want to leave. They claim that if they do they are afraid that once they leave, they will have no food or water. Many do want to leave but don’t know how, most of those who evacuated.
According to humanitarian and emergency action team of ARMM, there are vehicles prepared for the evacuees as well as for stranded students inside Mindanao State University. AFP also assured that the current state is taken care of.
GMA News correspondent Emil Sumangil, who was on a live setup inside the service vehicle, reported that there were 15 members of the Maute group at first based on the press conference held the night before. Their mission was to abduct Abu Sayyaf chief Isnilon Hapilon. Their numbers increased to 50 and then a bit less than a hundred. But according to local non-government organizations, there were an estimated 300 members of the terrorist group.
The ongoing gun battle between AFP and Mautes has given the possibility that other nearby provinces might be entered by the terrorist group. Information was also given that some terrorists have already entered the area. Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) began inspecting every boat and water craft entering Zamboanga and Davao.
Police authorities also inspected two local towns in Zamboanga because they received information that a fugitive has made it in. Residents who have no ID’s were seized.
